“And maybe that was what real, adult love was. Being fearless enough to hold each other close no matter how catastrophic the world became.”
Seven days in June is a very powerful, emotional and heart wrenching story which will make you feel all the feelings. It begins a little slowly when you are introduced to Eva, an author and a single mother who on the outside seems all put together but internally is struggling with a hidden disability. Your heart goes out to see her struggling and stuck in her own mind. You are then introduced to a recently sober Shane - an award winning author who is trying hard to turn over a new page in his life after being drunk throughout his writing career. But once you get sucked into the story, it will keep you hooked.
The timeline of the book alternates between the present and the past. There we learn how the two characters evolved into the people they are in the present. You start rooting for them when you see them go through so much suffering at a young age. You feel devastated about the environment and situations both of them get thrown into but have tears of joy seeing them being there for each other. The best part is how Shane and Eva continue to speak to each other through their books even after separating in their childhood.
Throughout the book, the author is very realistic in her story. Never will you find her sugarcoating tough moments people face in life. The endurance shown by Eva and Shane shines through when they overcome the cards that they are dealt. It motivates you and makes you believe that you are capable of anything you put your mind to and that all of us deserve love and friendships.
The author has also shown such amazing human connections throughout the book. These range from the mother-daughter bond, the girlfriends that Eva had on her side, the support of the fans of Eva’s books, and the bond between Shane and his students. These human connections are what our hearts are always on the lookout for. This book is definitely a must for your soul and will make you think about the person in your life who in seven days became the person you never knew you needed in your life.
